Previous researchers have identified a series of cylindrical bone objects that occur on Roman sites as being parts of leaf hinges. They consist of an outer bone sheath and a central wooden spindle. Rarely does the spindle survive, and so the purpose of this note is to draw attention to three complete examples from London, all preserved in waterlogged deposits. One of the hinges has a spindle of ash (fraxinus sp).
