The 1997 Local History Conference
The London of Human Frailty the weak, the wicked and the well-meaning
Saturday 29 November 1997
Despite its veneer of sophistication, London has always harboured just below the surface a society which feeds on crime. During this study day helped by a panel of leading researchers those who attended the conference were encouraged to take a frank look at this underworld of violence, prostitution and drug addiction. They began to see how slum housing had contributed to the problem, and were made aware of the efforts of philanthropists to cure Londons ills.
